No. 6 Marshall men’s soccer lit up the goal in a 6-1 rout of Sun Belt Conference foe Georgia Southern Sunday night at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.

It was an unseasonably warm Sunday for Senior Night in Huntington as Marshall honored six departing players including Alexander Adjetey, Gabriel Alves, Collin Mocyunas, Oliver Semmle, Joao Souza, and Milo Yosef.

Morris Duggan opened the scoring for the Thundering Herd in the 14th minute when he hammered home a loose ball on the goal line. Seven minutes later, Joao Souza would double the lead to 2-0 with his 5th goal of the season. Two-nil would be the score going into the half.

The pace and goal scoring increased dramatically in the second half starting with Taimu Okiyoshi’s goal in the 52nd minute, his second of the season. Georgia Southern would make their evening even worse and increase their deficit to four with an own goal in the 58th minute. Six minutes later, Adam Aoumaich would notch his second goal of the season making the score 5-0 MU.

Georgia Southern finally got on the board to prevent the shutout with a goal in the 76th minute to make the score 5-1. Milo Yosef would set the final score at 6-1 with his 8th goal of the season in the 78th minute.

Marshall improves to 8-2-3 on the season and 3-1-3 in conference play, which is good enough to tie No. 2 Kentucky for 1st place in the Sun Belt. Marshall next travels to Wright State on October 26 before returning to Huntington for their final home game of the season against James Madison on November 1.
