Marshall men’s basketball opened it’s first season in the Sun Belt Conference with a 79-53 win over their historic rivals: the Appalachian State Mountaineers in front of a raucous crowd at Cam Henderson Center.

Bruce Morris’ “shot herd round the world” was honored during pregame with the placing of footprints on the court to commemorate the longest shot in college Basketball history at 89 feet, 10 inches on February 7, 1985. Registered as only a 2 point shot at the time, it is a record that will now never be broken. Morris’ family was on hand for the dedication.

The Thundering Herd is now 12-2 on the season and 1-0 in Sun Belt play. They will next host the James Madison Dukes on Dec. 31, at 2PM before traveling to Georgia Southern on Jan. 5, 2023.
