It was a cold and ugly day for football at Joan C. Edwards with temperatures in the 50s and rain falling the entire afternoon. The intimate crowd at “The Joan” was treated to a defensive showdown as the Marshall Thundering Herd defeated the Gardner-Webb Running Bulldogs 28-7 Saturday.
The Thundering Herd defense has not given up a touchdown for eight full quarters now. Gardner-Webb’s lone touchdown in Saturday’s contest came on a Henry Colombi interception that went for a pick 6 in the first quarter. The defense also forced four turnovers including a fumble punched loose by Abraham Beauplan and recovered by Micah Abraham, an interception by Joshua Bowers, and two interceptions by Steven Gilmore.
Marshall will next host the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns in their Sun Belt Conference home opener on Wednesday night, Oct. 12, 2022. The game is a “blackout” with fans being encouraged to wear black Marshall gear. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
