Despite missing a few starters, including quarterback Isaiah Green and running back Keion Davis, the Thundering Herd looked competitive Friday night against Middle Tennessee State on Military Appreciation Night…at first.

Marshall had a lot to smile about in front of a home crowd of 29,571, taking a solid first half effort and a 17-10 lead into the locker room. But then the second half came and the wheels fell off in epic fashion as the Blue Raiders racked up 24 unanswered points over the next 21 minutes of game time.

The Herd would not score in the second half until 2:37 left in the contest, at which point MTSU had amassed a three-possession lead and put the game out of reach. Marshall is now 3-2 (1-1) on the season.

Some positives to take away from the game: the Marshall defense is strong (five sacks in the first half??) and Tyler King is a monster (163 yards on 26 carries). Anthony Anderson (12 rushes for 66 years and a score) also looks to be a powerful weapon moving forward.
