Marshall University Athletics has partnered with Lexington, Kentucky-based Country Boy Brewing to bring a new beer, “Herd Country Lager,” to Thundering Herd sporting events this season. The new beer will be on local store shelves starting October 24, 2022.

Can design for the new Herd Country Lager.

The MU Board of Governors announced the new partnership at their August 2022 meeting. At that time, MU Athletic Director Christian Spears told the Herald-Dispatch the new beer is expected to be sold this fall, pending rezoning by the City of Huntington for the Cam Henderson Center, at football, basketball, volleyball, softball, and baseball games.

“What used to be only a handful of schools is virtually everyone that is involved in one way or another with beer sales in venues,” Spears told the H-D. “It makes sense for us to zone the Cam correctly, or try to, and we’ll go through that process with our commission locally and then hope for approval.”

Brewed with malted wheat and a touch of Huell Melon hops, this brew carries a stated 100 calories and 3.1 carbs per 12oz serving. Light and refreshing, Herd Country Lager will fit perfectly into the cooler of every fan that bleeds green.

“This is what happens when good people come together,” Mr. Spears said. “Our team and the Country Boy team worked together to finalize something that is truly for The Herd. Welcome to Herd Country! Cheers.”

“We are so lucky to find a partner in Marshall University that appreciates a great crafted beer,” Owner and founder of Country Boy Brewing Daniel “DH” Harrison said. “We have a couple Marshall alums on our team and cannot wait to hit that first tailgate with a Herd Country Lager.”

There is no doubt that Herd fans are looking forward to Marshall’s first season in the Sun Belt Conference with great anticipation. Having an ice-cold Herd Country Lager should make it even better.
