Despite trailing Florida Atlantic 19-2 early in the game, the Thundering Herd men’s basketball team recalibrated and came back win 76-61 on Senior Night in front of a packed house at the Cam Henderson Center on Saturday.
Emotions were running high already going into the game as this would be the last time Marshall fans would see many of the players that have most recently etched their names deeply into the stone of Thundering Herd history: Rondale Watson, C.J. Burks, and Jon Elmore.
But Mr. Elmore, aka Jonny Seemore Buckets, Esq., took the opportunity before the game to propose to his girlfriend (spoiler alert, she said yes).

When asked after the game which made him more nervous, proposing or being down 19-2 on Senior Night, Mr. Buckets answered “The proposal! I was afraid she was going to say no!”
When asked why he chose to propose at the Cam, he answered “Because Marshall is my family.”
Mr. Buckets finishes his time on the court in Huntington with 2,505 points and 747 assists which is good enough for first place in conference history in both categories. But neither he nor the rest of the team are ready to rest on their laurels with all eyes on another conference championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
“I’m putting the whole country on alert. Marshall basketball is playing well. You saw what we did last year. So if you’re just a casual fan, you might want to keep the channel on when you see Marshall.” – Jon Elmore
The Thundering Herd is now 18-13 on the regular season but that record is basically wiped clean as they will next head to Frisco, Texas for the Conference USA Tournament. Photos by Joshua Murdock below the ad.
