After much work and financial investment, the Penthouse at the top of West Virginia’s tallest residential building is now booking for overnight stays.
Occupying the entire 15th floor of the West Virginia Building at 910 4th Avenue, the Penthouse offers luxurious modern amenities along with 360-degree views of downtown Huntington from the heart of the city.
The West Virginia Building was originally constructed as the Union Bank & Trust Building in 1924-25, however, the bank soon closed due to the Great Depression. Patriotism and state pride led to the high-rise being renamed “The West Virginia Building” during World War II because it was the tallest building in the state at that time.
Known to many older Huntingtonians as the location of “Permon’s at the Top” restaurant, the Penthouse was most recently occupied by the Huntington Prime restaurant, which had its main dining room and kitchen on the ground floor, but has been vacant for the past few years. However, as of this writing, the 5,250 sq. ft. unit has been fully remodeled by new owner Mel Cummings of Cummings Rentals LLC.
The four bedroom, four-and-a-half bath Penthouse features modern furnishings and an open kitchen and 16-seat dining room. According to Mr. Cummings, the unit is more than just a place to sleep when passing through; it is a destination spot equal in size to six average hotel rooms with views and amenities far exceeding any hotel room in the region.
The Penthouse starts at $695 a night, plus a one-time cleaning fee. An initial search of availability on the website shows it is already starting to book up well into 2023. Whether you’re looking for a place to rest in luxury, or somewhere to host an event to remember, the Penthouse at the West Virginia Building should be your number one choice.
