Former Marshall Thundering Herd star quarterback Rakeem Cato made his return to the gridiron over the weekend getting a start for the Richmond Roughriders of the American Arena League.
Cato and the Roughriders picked up a victory over the High County Grizzlies 34-19 in the season opener for both teams. Cato completed 11 of 23 passes for 170 yards and threw for four touchdowns. The all time leader in career passing touchdowns in Marshall University history also added a rushing touchdown to cap the scoring for his Richmond squad.
Also on the Roughriders roster is former Thundering Herd defensive lineman Brandon Sparrow. The 6-3, 289lb Sparrow starred at Marshall from 2010-2013 and racked up 126 career tackles in his colligate career.
Richmond returns to the field on March, 31 to face the Carolina Energy.
