Nomada Bakery has been named the #1 Best Cake Shop in the United States by the USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, earning national recognition for its handcrafted cakes, devoted customer base, and unwavering commitment to quality.
Each year, USA TODAY’s 10Best Awards highlight the best in food, travel, and hospitality, with winners chosen by public vote from a list curated by industry experts. Nomada’s win places a Huntington-based bakery at the top of a nationwide competition—above bakeries in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and beyond.
“This is an extraordinary honor,” said Ariel Barcenas, co-owner and chief creative officer. “We bake everything from scratch—no mixes, no preservatives—just thoughtful flavor and attention to detail. To be voted the best cake shop in America by thousands of people is humbling and deeply emotional. I’m especially proud of our staff—this award belongs to them too. Their consistency, care, and passion are at the core of everything we do.”
Nomada is widely known for its bold, layered cakes and seasonal creativity. Large cakes include fan favorites like rich chocolate with chocolate buttercream, bright lemon-blueberry, mixed-berry, and the alfacake. The bakery also offers its signature baby cakes—personal-sized versions of its large cakes—and a selection of cupcakes topped with house-made buttercreams.
“Our team shows up every day with joy and intention,” said Dr. Shawn Schulenberg, co-owner. “This award validates not just our recipes, but the hard work of everyone behind the counter, in the kitchen, and supporting the dream.”
A dedicated portion of the bakery case is reserved for gluten-free and vegan items, prepared with the same integrity and flavor-driven approach. Customers can browse and order cakes online at store.nomadabakery.com or submit special requests at www.nomadabakery.com.
Nomada Bakery is located at 210 11th Street in Heritage Station and is open daily from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. In addition to cakes, the bakery serves a rotating menu of empanadas, soups, sandwiches, croissants, pastries, and locally-roasted coffee.
