It was an aggressive and physical affair on a chilly night at Veterans Memorial Soccer Stadium as the No. 6 Marshall Thundering Herd defeated Robert Morris 3-1.
Joao Souza opened the scoring with a flick by the keeper in the 37th minute to put Marshall up 1-0. This was Souza’s 4th goal of the season. 1-0 would remain the score going into halftime.
Matthew Bell would double Marshall’s lead with his 8th goal of the season in the 84th minute. The Colonials would get one back two minutes later to make the score 2-1. Finally, Taimu Okiyoshi would put the game away with his first career goal in the 87th minute.
The two teams combined for 18 fouls and five yellow cards Tuesday night with Marshall dominating the play and the physicality. The Thundering Herd managed 12 shots with 4 on goal.
The Thundering Herd next travels to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks in Sun Belt Conference play on Oct. 8, 2022. They return home to host the Old Dominion Monarchs on Oct. 15, kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
