My friend has a joke that “Ghostface” from the “Scream” franchise is the scariest villain because they make you talk on the phone instead of texting. As of August 2024, “Ghostface” has come to Huntington…but they don’t want to talk on the phone.

“Ghostface of Huntington” was recently launched on Facebook and TikTok to chronicle the adventures of the Scream antagonist around the Jewel City leading up to Halloween. So far, “Ghostface” has been photographed at Boots Spirits & Feed on 9th Street, Harris Riverfront Park, Hillbilly Hot Dogs in Lesage, and Tu-Endie-Wei State Park in Point Pleasant.

Ghostface says the point of the social media presence is to connect with people who love Huntington as much as they do and help get everybody in the “spooky season” for Halloween by promoting local haunted houses and spooky yards.

Additionally, Ghostface will be participating in the Haunted Majestic Family Fearpark’s annual haunted house from September 27-October 26, 2024.

Downtown Huntington sat down with Ghostface for a chat:

: So how did “Ghostface of Huntington” come about?

: “First, I’d like to thank my mom. Instead of sitting us down to watch Disney movies, she introduced us to “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “Scream,” and –Our Uncle, the O.G. of Halloween, –Michael Myers. She raised us to think he is a relative. I’m almost sure the Crypt Keeper is also an uncle. He babysat my sister and I a few times.”

“I’d also like to give special thanks to my dad for terrorizing our friends back in the 90s. This man would dress up as Uncle Mike [Myers], with a cordless boombox in his jumpsuit (Halloween theme music blaring) walking up and down the street.”

: So Ghostface of Huntington is a family affair.

: “Yes. We’re slowly but surely getting our 13-year-old son Donovian to love Halloween more. He went to a haunted house last year for the first time ever, so that’s progress. Donovian also deserves recognition for his amazing photography skills; he is responsible for more than 85% of the photos you will see us post.”

: What is your connection to Huntington?

: “Ghostface was born in 1990 in Huntington, West Virginia. Attended Spring Hill Elementary, Enslow Middle, and—after 9th grade—at Huntington High School. Moved in 2005 to Georgia and made their way back home to ‘Wild and Wonderful’ in 2023.”

“[As kids], my best friend and I would use my mom’s camcorder to make short horror films; on Doulton Avenue running with a kitchen knife and a Michael Myers mask on in the middle of the street….now, I’m proud to announce, we are still this way. Only difference is, we do this in broad daylight.”

: What kind of adventures can your followers expect?

: “Aside from being a serial photo taker, video editing connoisseur, and adventure hoarder; we also love to hike, chase waterfalls, and you may even see us at Boots line dancing on Thursdays. Our friends who teach line dancing are a really good time. We’re most active on TikTok, so you can find us at ‘Ghostface of Huntington’ on there. We are looking forward to scaring you!”

: And it all ends with October?

: “No, please be advised, it can be the middle of February, and you’ll still see us in full costume. Just add rose petals.”

: Thank you talking to me and not m*rdering me.

: “The day is still young.”
