Alpha Technologies announced last week that they will be opening a new IT data center in downtown Huntington, West Virginia, as early as 2025.
Alpha Technologies, headquartered in Hurricane, West Virginia, already has a world-class data center located in South Charleston, WV. They recently announced plans to retrofit the former Appalachian Power Company Building at 1125 6thAvenue into its newest IT center.
According to its website, Alpha Technologies is a service-disabled veteran owned IT Service Company focused on IT services such as system security and maintenance, broadband connectivity, Alpha-Voice services, cloud computing, data storage and backup, and more.
The new project is made possible by the new fiber internet network currently under construction by Thundercloud and the City of Huntington. That initiative aims to extend high-speed fiber connectivity throughout the Tri-State region.
Officials say this development will provide residents and businesses with a choice of internet service providers, encouraging competition and innovation.
Construction on the new data center in Huntington is planned to begin in early 2025. To date, $4.7 million in grants have been awarded to Thundercloud for the fiber connectivity project. That project is currently focused on Huntington’s most underserved neighborhoods.
Alpha expects to invest approximately $10 million in renovations and state-of-the-art equipment.
